Randomness: My Ultimate Bucket List

6/13/2014

So I have pretty eclectic tastes, hobbies, likes, etc... I've been working on my bucket list for a while. I actually found a letter a couple years ago - I wrote it while I was in high school, from my 16yr old self (when I graduated high school) to my 26yr old self, lol.

It was mostly superficial things, like having multiple types of vehicles (which if I includes hubby's, I've accomplished that, lol), move to Hawaii or Colorado (which I'm here!), get married (done twice, and this time is it), have several pets (got that covered too), and have a couple kids (done and done!). Apparently I wasn't that focused on career goals ("possibly be done with veterinary school", that career path has obviously changed), but I did accomplish a few of the not so superficial goals (listed below with a *).

So here it is, in no particular order. My ULTIMATE BUCKET LIST...
  1. Learn a homesteading skill or two, and become awesome at it. Something like soapmaking *, sewing *, canning, growing my own food, etc.
  2. Audition for something... like American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance, any kind of talent show (tho I don't consider myself very talented, I just have horrible stage-fright I'd like to overcome).
  3. Run a marathon.
  4. Attend the Olympics as a spectator ONLY. Both summer and winter games!
  5. Own an amazing LBD (little black dress). I'm almost 30 and I seriously don't have one, lol.
  6. Pen my life story. ALL of it. I'd like to have like a running autobiography, that when the time comes I can pass it off to my kids/grandkids.
  7. Travel somewhere. Spontaneously. Same day. Doesn't matter by plane, train, or automobile. I think it would be refreshing to just pack up last minute and just go somewhere.
  8. Learn (refresh) a martial art. or something like knife throwing or swordplay would be awesome.... It's the closest I'll ever get to being a ninja, hehe.
  9. Visit each continent at least once. And if possible...
  10. Visit at least 2 countries on each continent... For Australia, I'd also like to visit New Zealand :)
  11. Learn to swim! Well, technically, this is another fear thing. I have a fear of deep water, or drowning, or both, or being eaten by a giant squid... umm, yeah. anyways. I NEED to do this so I can...
  12. Swim with dolphins and...
  13. Go cliff diving and...
  14. Go scuba diving. (so yeah, need to get over that fear, lol)
  15. Go bungee jumping
  16. Go parasailing
  17. Go hang gliding (is that one word or two?)
  18. Find a red wine that I really, really like... I currently do not like red wine. Any suggestions? I seriously just buy it to cook with occasionally.
  19. Throw a cocktail party. So I can rock my amazing LBD mentioned above, and share my awesome wine find, lol.
  20. Learn to bake at least one dessert from scratch*. From memory. No recipe cards/books, lol.
  21. Create a signature cocktail.
  22. Learn to play an instrument extremely well... I think it would be really awesome if I could play "Flight of the Bumblebee" because it just sounds so impossible, lol.
  23. Buy or collect something heirloom worthy.
  24. Learn to ride a motorcycle... I really don't have much excuse for this one because my hubby owns a motorcycle, and has since I've known him.
  25. Travel on a cruise
  26. Charter a private jet or yacht for an exotic vacation.
  27. Buy an island.... It doesn't have to be huge, or already built on. I would totally love the ultimate treehouse on it, like the Swiss Family Robinson, lol
  28. Go deep sea fishing.
  29. Milk a cow.
  30. Shear a llama.... yes, this is random, lol.
  31. Vacation off the grid, for a full week or two... maybe it'll reset my sleep cycle. Insomnia sucks.
  32. Attend a live major sporting event. Like the Superbowl, World Series, or World Cup. hmmm.
  33. Learn a foreign language fluently and travel to the country of origin... I actually have several languages on my list to learn: Spanish, French, Italian, Korean, Japanese, and Chinese, lol. I know a little bit  of all of them, and can mostly read Spanish, French, and Korean. But I want to be super-fluent... ambitious, I know.
  34. Grow my family's favorite fruits and veggies.
  35. Take a practice enrichment course in another country. Like learning Thai massage in Thailand, or Ayurveda therapies in India, or TCM practices in China, or Lomi Lomi in Hawaii.
  36. Attend a Broadway production, and a ballet, and an opera.
  37. Go zip-lining.
  38. Have a one-on-one chat, in person, with a politician. I really want to know what they are thinking sometimes and how they really think their choices effect the rest of us.
  39. Go to an anime convention. seriously, lol.
  40. Build/Own and live-in an earthship. The ones I've seen are so cool.
  41. Visit several Wonders of the World. At least 7 ;) ancient or not, lol
  42. Cook EVERY recipe in at least ONE of my cookbooks
  43. Read a book in a foreign language.
  44. Watch a movie or TV in a foreign language, without subtitles... I currently watch anime in Japanese and Korean game shows, but with subtitles, lol.
  45. Fly first class on an international trip.
  46. See the Northern Lights in person.
  47. Publish a book (or at least write one then contemplate whether I ever want to attempt to get it published. lol)
  48. Fold 1000 paper cranes and make a wish.
  49. Public Speaking... another fear to conquer.
  50. Read all the books on any one of the top 100 list.

And a list of things I've done, in no particular order. Just to stay motivated....
  1. Made friends in different countries... I currently have friends (people I have met personally, not just "pen pals", in Korea, China, Spain, Germany, and Italy. (haven't been all those places yet, but I will get there!)
  2. Had a homebirth... My second was born right on my bathroom floor!
  3. Traveled to Korea... was in the Army then.
  4. Bought a house. *
  5. Started my own business.
  6. Paid off credit cards.
  7. Caught a baby... this happened while attending a homebirth as a doula. Baby came fast and midwife wasn't quite  there yet. She arrived, literally, TWO minutes after baby was born!!
  8. Got a full sized upright piano... not just an electronic keyboard, lol.
  9. Served in the military
  10. Earned two Associates degrees... almost done with my BA, finally!
